 Eco-Adventures and Private Charters
|
Big Blue is the Turks and Caicos Islands' only diving and eco-adventure company. Established in 1997, our mission is to provide guests with unique and informative adventures that explore the islands with minimal impact to the environment and maximum benefit to the local community. All trips are conducted in small groups or as private customized adventures.
The Best Time to Go
The tides and weather are monitored to help choose ideal times and locations for diving, snorkelling and kayaking. When going on a Big Blue adventure you can place your trust in our many years of experience leading adventure tours in the Turks and Caicos.
Eco-Serious
Big Blue cares about the Turks and Caicos Islands. Special heed is taken to use permanent moorings, avoiding anchors on the coral. Divers, snorkelers, and kayakers are advised about good reef and in-water etiquette. Bikers and hikers follow established trails. All trips are educational and use local guides where possible. Local enterprise is utilized, including restaurants, shops, and taxis. Big Blue also supports the Turks and Caicos National Trust by bringing our guests to the Little Water Cay iguana sanctuary, the Wade's Green historical plantation on North Caicos, and the Crossing Place Trail on Middle Caicos. Big Blue is the recipient of the Turks and Caicos Ecotourism award.
Location
Big Blue Unlimited is based in the Leeward Marina, on the east end of Providenciales, adjacent to the Princess Alexandra Nature Reserve. We also have a location at the Saltmills Plaza in central Grace Bay. Complimentary pick-up is available from the hotels and resorts.

PRIVATE ADVENTURES
Big Blue Unlimited are the adventure specialists and have a network of guides, facilities, and transportation connecting the islands for you. Explore off the beaten path, see more of the islands, reefs, and local culture. Private guides and trips are available for all activities. The adventures highlighted below are merely suggestions; Big Blue will design a day-out to suit your interests. Combine boating, diving, snorkelling, kayaking, biking, island exploration and more.
Private dive charters are available on all of Big Blue’s vessels. Diving can also be included as part of the boat adventures described below and basic training can be conducted during the day if required.
BOAT ADVENTURES
The Caicos Cays Eco-tour
Explore the string of cays and turquoise waters that run between Providenciales and North Caicos. Snorkel different spots along the coral reef as you travel up the coast. Spend time on the deserted beaches and learn about the marine life, bird life, and island geography. Stop at the iguana sanctuary on Little Water Cay for a guided tour with the National Trust. Half and full-day trips are available.
West Caicos
Enjoy the fun journey and truly get away from it all on the uninhabited island of West Caicos. Experience some of the bluest waters in the island chain, snorkel the coral reefs and jump from the cliffs into the deep pools below. Hike inland to historic Yankee Town and mysterious Lake Catherine. The lake is connected to the ocean via a labyrinth of underwater caves hidden beneath the island. Learn the unique geology of the island and explore the fossil reefs high above the waterline. It's a full day adventure that will leave you exhausted and satisfied. Pick-up by boat along Provo's south coast is possible.
French Cay & West Sand Spit
French Cay lies 15 miles to the south of Provo. It is a small island near the edge of the wall and is a wildlife sanctuary. There is an abundance of bird life on this remote island and you can understand why when you explore the pristine coral reefs and waters found adjacent to her. If the sea conditions are favourable it is possible to continue south to West Sand Spit, a small sandbar that emerges at low tide on the edge of the Caicos Bank. Out in the middle of nowhere it's an incredible natural phenomenon that has to be seen to be fully appreciated. Snorkel or dive along the top of the underwater wall that marks the return to Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy lunch while you relax on your very own, albeit, temporary private island.

LAND & SEA ADVENTURES
North Caicos
There are a variety of ways to see North Caicos, the 'Garden Island' of the Turks and Caicos. Divide your time between playing on the water and exploring the island. Utilize Big Blue’s experience and infrastructure to combine snorkeling, boating, kayaking, or mountain biking for a full-day eco adventure. Learn about the local history and island living. Have lunch in the home of local matriarch, and accomplished chef, Susan Butterfield. Tour the restored 18th century plantation ruins of Wade's Green with a National Trust guide. Visit Flamingo Pond Nature Reserve and Cottage Pond, a deep freshwater sinkhole. Take a boat ride down Bottle Creek, visit deserted beaches, and cool off with a swim in the turquoise waters that surround the island.
Middle Caicos and North Caicos combined
Trips to Middle Caicos are designed as exclusive trips for a maximum of 4 people. You can either take a spectacular flight from the Provo airport or island hop across North Caicos. Middle Caicos is the largest island in the Turks and Caicos chain yet has a population of only 280 people. It has a charm and vibe unique within the Turks and Caicos Islands. With a local guide, explore the impressive limestone cave systems, the largest in the Bahamas. Visit the sensational beach at Mudjin Harbour and enjoy lunch in a local home. In the afternoon, transfer into a boat to explore the East Bay Cay Nature Reserve, also visit the old town of Bottle Creek on North Caicos. Travel to the north mouth of the creek itself and look for marine and bird life along the way. There are excellent opportunities to swim and comb remote beaches far off the beaten path. Transfer back to Provo at the end of this special day by either boat or plane from North Caicos.
Grand Turk and Salt Cay
Guided and self-guided trips to the Turks Island group can be arranged on request. These historic islands have a very different character to the Caicos Islands and are reached by a short flight from Provo airport. Whale watching (Jan-Mar only), stingrays, snorkelling, the National Museum, and bird watching are just some of the fun activities you can do. Take a walk along the front street and enjoy lunch on the waterss edge. Learn about the old salt industry that made these islands famous.
Marine life and coral reef ecology
Our resident marine scientist offers private marine life and coral reef ecology classes for all levels and ages. Learn and understand about the fish, corals, and other invertebrates that you encounter on the reefs around the islands. Emphasis is put on identification, behaviour, and reef ecology. Timing is flexible and split between some classroom work and plenty of snorkelling time. The class work can be conducted at your condo or villa; the snorkelling is either done from the shore or on a boat.
