Turks and Caicos Travel Tips



Entry Requirements:

Passport, birth certificate or voter registration card, and photo identification plus a return ticket are required for US and Canadian visitors. Visitors can stay up to 30 days and must posses a return or on going ticket.

Visa/Immigration:

A residence permit is required to reside on the Islands, obtainable from the Immigration Office in Grand Turk. Work and business permits are required to operate a business and are normally granted with possession of relevant skills or qualifications that are limited on the Islands.

Customs:

Passengers are allowed one quart of liquor or two bottles of wine, 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars or eight ounces of tobacco duty free.

Currency:

U.S. Dollars. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Travelers Checks are widely accepted on the Island and the banks will accept all forms of currency.

Business Hours:

Monday-Friday 8am-1pm & 2pm-4:30pm. Banks Monday-Thursday 8:30am-2:30pm and Friday 8:30am-12:30pm & 2:30pm-4:30pm

Telephone:

Worldwide telephone access. Most resorts provide fax machines, telexes, and internet connections. Public phones operate by phone cards. Dial area code 649 then 7-digit number. Dial 118 for local and international directory assistance. Dial 911 for emergencies.

Medical:

Grand Turk full service hospital. Extensive medical services on Providenciales. Health Clinics on all islands.

Electricity:

U.S. standard 120/240 Volts

Transportation:

Taxis are available at airports and hotels. Rental cars available with a valid driver's license. Driving is on the left. Scooters, bicycles and buggies may also be rented.

Nightlife:

Most resorts boast bars and have a calendar of local events, bands and restaurant specials.

Dining:

Provo offers top gourmet dining. Local specialties include conch, spiny lobster and fish. World cuisine such as Mexican, Italian and French also available.

Tipping:

Left at each person's discretion, 15% is custom for restaurant service.
